Richard Davidson : Science and Dharma







Professor Richard Davidson lectured at Jewel Heart International headquarters Ann Arbor MI. He included an autobiography and a review of the short history of contemplative neuroscience's development as a hybrid discipline/ This talk showcased important new findings as well as methodological strategies in the study of meditation.

Dr. Davidson also highlighted the important role of contemplative practice on the part of the scientists who are conducting this research and will invite the audience to consider the complementary goals of each.

Dr. Davidson, named by Time Magazine in 2006 as one of the world's 100 most influential people, is a leading expert on the mind-body connection. His research reveals how meditative training can both calm the body as well as improve our ability to remain mentally clear under stressful conditions.

He is the William James and Vilas Research Professor of Psychology and Psychiatry, the Director of the Waisman Laboratory for Brain Imaging and Behavior, the Laboratory for Affective Neuroscience and the Center for Investigating Healthy Minds, Waisman Center at the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Richard Davidson is a member of the Mind and Life Institute team, sharing in dialogues with the world's great contemplative traditions and modern science. Richard's work with contemplative neuroscience plays a pivotal role in the exploration of how we understand ourselves and the world we live in, impacting both science and society.
